Sleeping Handsome

This is how I have been spending my days lately...looking after my nephew, Aidan. Let me tell you "it's hard werk" as he would say. Not that you would believe me by the photos above. He hardly naps anymore in the afternoon so on the rare occasion that he does, it's a photo op. The other day I tried to take a pic of him but he would not stay still long enough for me to snap it. That's how he is normally...not like this sleeping so peacefully.
He talks a blue streak now. Some of my fav's are: So, how was your day?(said at anytime of day), I didn't realize, Are you coming at my house?(or the reverse am I coming at your house, Where's Uncle Jeff? and when he talks on the phone he ends every conversation with bye, love you, call you back in a minute.

The other day Marlene, Aidan & I went shopping. Marlene asked how he liked shopping and he said "we found lots of treasures". Don't know where he got that but he was certainly right....he is a treasure. Posted by Picasa

The Man in his Element

Here's Jeff out in the elements where he feels just as comfortable here as on the couch. Here I am in mine...on land. Does that smile look bigger somehow?? Posted by Picasa

Ice Fishing March 11 2006

Here we are on our ice fishing trip. It was a balmy 12 degrees even out on the ice. Believe it or not we got sunburns that day on our faces and Jeff even got a little on his arms where his sleeves were pulled up.
One of the guys we were with, Murray, suggested we should have our wedding out here...he said something about it being different, unique. I can't remember exactly because I tried to put it out of my head. I'm sure, it's a great idea...if you're a penguin!! haha!! Sorry, Murr Man but that's out of the question especially after everyone reads my description of what it was like that day. Warm day...ice melts...need I say more.

Ice Fishing Trip with Jeff & Gang

From left to right: Heather, Jeff, Ron, Brad(back) & Murray
As some of you may know Jeff has some interesting hobbies. Ice fishing happens to be one of them. I don't know if any of you, guys or girls, have gone ice fishing but it is the most boring thing you can do. I think some how for men anyway it's like gambling...you play all day with the hope of catching something and if you do it's like hitting the jackpot...any jackpot...it doesn't have to be big just enough to excite you and get you to go back for more. Me, on the other hand, I see it as time to go home. You sit out there all day long and if you do indeed catch something it's time to cash in and go home.
I truly don't think it is a sport that woman can understand nor should we share in. You see, I go with Jeff once a year because he loves it and he wants me to be with him. It's one of those things that you do for the one you love although you really don't want to...you know what I mean...but really it's not a place for women unless other women are there. Most women that I know don't ice fish. It's a guy thing...it's about male bonding & drinking. That's how it got the name "ice drinking". This last time out I really begin to wonder if there is not something wrong with these men. You see, we went 2 weeks ago when the weather was warm. Now we all know what ice does when it's warm...it melts...Now I'd like you to picture this...going out onto Lake Simcoe in a bombadier (pictured above) 8 miles from land, with slush, water, deep ruts from the trips back and forth, seeing the ice all jammed up and the river completely thawed. To me this is terrifying...to the men I was with it's "exciting". Although these conditions sound terrible apparently it is perfectly safe. Huh...says who?? It was all I could do not to cry on the trip out there and to get out of the bombadier rather than just driving back with the guide. There I was out in the middle of nowhere on lake Simcoe no land in sight and no way back. Eventually you just have to try and put it out of your head and try and make the most of it. The unfortunate thing for Jeff is that I think it will be a mighty, mighty cold day in hell before I venture out on another fishing expedition. I think I will stick to fishing in a boat, on a warm summer day with the sun warm on my skin. Then atleast if you don't catch anything you will have caught some rays and have a nice tan to show for it.
FYI...out of the 7 of us that were on this trip we caught one whitefish. Brad caught it. The other huts around us were pulling fish up one after the other...i guess it wasn't our day. I was never so happy to see that yellow bombadier heading towards us to take us back to land. Luckily that's it for the year. Now I just have to work on my excuses for next year as to why I don't want to go ice fishing....

It's Official

It's official...you can read it for yourself. I tried to post this picture on the last entry but for some reason...unknown to me as I am still learning how to blog, it didn't work. Patience, my dear they say. Anyway, on paper we are sold. The only hang up now is the buyers getting insurance. In every purchase agreement there is a clause that protects the potential buyer. It states that a title search must be done on the house to ensure there isn't any funny stuff on the house, leans or whatever, and ensure that the home can be insured incase of fire. Well, since we have an older home that had the old knob & tube wiring in it (we have since had what was visible in the basement removed) this has presented us with a small problem. We need to know that they can get insurance on the house in order for it to be 100% SOLD and official. This could make the deal go sour if they can't get insurance. Insurance companies have over the years become really sticky about houses with the old style wiring in them. Not there is anything really wrong with it. Any electrican will tell you it is actually ok but the insurance companies have made a big deal out of it. It's a pain in the ass really...pardon my french. This is holding us back from making an offer on a house that we like because we want to be free and clear of this house and be able to make a firm offer without worrying that this deal may fall through. It's complicated...the reason I am I am sharing this with you is so you can learn from my experience. Most people don't buy and sell often enough to know the ins & outs so any experiences is worth learning from.
We are supposed to hear tomorrow if the buyers can insure the home and then I will be making a call to our realtor up north to see the house we like again and hopefully by week's end make an offer on it. Cross your fingers....

SOLD!!!!!

Notice the difference...from ??? to !!!!...yes this time we have SOLD the house!!!
Different people, better negotiations, good price and we kept the fridges!!! I'd have to say I was proud of Jeff & I how we handled the negotiations this time. We stuck to our guns and didn't listen to our realtor and we got what we wanted. We didn't have to do a lot of wheeling and dealing like the last time. We counter their offer...took out a couple of things, put in the price that we wanted and that was that. They accepted without countering again. Apparently, they were going to counter on the price again but their realtor did some smooth talking and they agreed!
The kicker??? Our closing date is April 28th!!! Yikes!!! Kevin, I know it's a little far but do you think I could come and live with you while we are in between houses??? If that falls through, are there any takers??? We will try our best to find a house but we don't want to rush into anything. The main reason I ask if someone wants to take us in is...we want to still be together after this and if we live with either set of parents there is the possibility we may not survive!! haha (No offence to you moms or dads...) We are open to suggestions...
