Baby & Pregnancy Countdown Ticker

We're 22 Weeks pregnant

I found this gadget on a website and thought it was cool. I'm not sure if it will update itself or if I will have to change it but it atleast let's you know where we are in our pregnancy. It's hard to believe we are passed the 1/2 way mark & only 4 months to go.

We have nicknamed the baby "Bumpkin" so we aren't always referring to "it". Although sometimes "it" is hard to get around. Not knowing the sex of the baby is driving me crazy. Jeff is perfectly fine with it. If it wasn't for him I think I would find out.
Bumpkin is moving around - kicking & punching. It's a weird and wonderful feeling. The kicks & punches are fairly light right now - Jeff can't feel Bumpkin yet - but last night Bumpkin gave me a pretty hard one that actually startled me!! I was up watching TV because I couldn't sleep, yes sleepless nights already, when it happened. The sleepless nights begin before you even know you are pregnant with trips to the bathroom...then that subsides a little and it's other things - heartburn, leg cramps or you just can't get comfortable. Our queen size bed is not big enough for the 2 1/2 of us and all the pillows I need. I'm tempted to run out and get a King size bed but somehow I don't think that would be the answer to my problem. I think my bedhog would just take over more of the bed!
We have cleared out our spare room to make it into the nursery. We have quite a bit to do. I think it's the only room that hasn't been done in about 20 years. It had a beautiful floral wallpaper on the walls that I am in the midst of removing. Then the lovely teal carpet will be going and the terrible stucco ceiling. All of which will be replaced with new wallpaper, fresh paint, ceiling and hardwood or laminant flooring. We have a lot to get done in the next few months but the project is so worth it.
I will keep you updated on how things are going with the pregnancy, the baby's room and whatever else pops in my mind to talk about.

Introducing "Bumpkin"

This is Bumpkin at 13weeks.

Long overdue

It has been ages since I blogged, as some of you know. No real reason just got away from it. But I'm attempting a come back. I will quickly update you on what's been going on since my last entry.

December - a difficult month. Our first Christmas without my parents. While we had to go on with Christmas as usual, it was far from Christmas as usual. I had no desire to shop, wrap or decorate. We cut down a tree again this year and I strung lights and put a select few of ornaments on the tree. I got the shopping done but not the baking. It was pretty quiet holiday season.
We were invited to Paul & Donava's, Sean's family, for Christmas dinner. It was nice.
We popped into visit our friends Krista & Eric afterwards.
We didn't do much to ring in the New Year - popcorn and movies was our style this year.
We did end the year on a happy note though. We found out we were pregnant with a home test.

This leads us to January where there was a couple trips to Brampton to my family Dr to confirm I really am pregnant. I was 6 weeks along when we found out for sure. We kept it quiet for awhile telling only Marlene, Sean & Gee-Gee at the end of January and then Jeff's parents. All were sworn to secrecy and bursting with excitement to tell but they managed to keep it in.

February was a busy month with birthdays. Jeff's, mine, Marlene & Sean and Austin's 1st birthday. We all met and went out for dinner to celebrate everyone's special day. We had a great time.
Met with my OB/GYN for the first time. Had wanted a female Dr but had no choice but to go with a male. Now the fun has begun - monthly appointments, tests etc.
On the 26th we went for our first ultrasound at 13weeks. Apparently, the ultrasound showed I was 14 weeks. We were having it done as part of the testing and therefore, couldn't have the test done properly as I was passed the "deadline". We saw the baby for the first time which was rather exciting and made it that much more "real". I will put the photos on the blog as well.
We nicknamed the baby "Bumpkin" rather than using "it". We also decided we weren't going to find out the sex of the baby.

March - End of 1st trimester so we started spreading the word.
Grandma came up for a couple weeks while Marlene & family were in Florida. It was great company for me. It had been a long and very snowy winter. We went visiting, shopping and out for lunch.
Due to the amount of snow this year we had problems with ice damming on our roof which ended up leaking water into the house causing damage to a wall. We called the insurance company and after some confusion finally had a company come in to dry the walls out with dehumidfiers and fans. The damaged wall didn't dry out so it had to be removed, just a portion of it and the ceiling. This is still on-going as it needs to be repaired yet and painted. We don't like the contractor that our insurance company has authorized us to use so we are still tryin to sort it out with them.
Took Grandma home just before Easter weekend. So I stayed and visited for a couple of days. It was nice because I was able to spend some time with Aidan and Austin, who was attempting to walk at the time. He only took a couple steps when I was actually there but I know it won't be long. He's the cutest little guy, in to everything. Aidan was excited because it was Easter and he wanted to paint eggs. He did on Saturday with his cousin Jeriko.

I guess that brings us to April. Last week we went on a tour of the hospital in Barrie where I will be delivering. It's nice as far as hospitals go. We got lots of great info to take home with us. Lots to think about too.
Friday we had our 19 week ultrasound. This time was much better than last time. There was a small monitor across from me so I could see the baby the whole time. The technician told me what I was looking at as she did things. She said the baby looked great. Bumpkin was movin around for us too. Jeff wasn't sure if he'd make it but luckily he did just as the technician finished up all the measurements and technical stuff. She showed Jeff the heart & let him hear it. Then we just watched Bumpkin move around. She was careful not to go "down there" since we don't want to know the sex. So there was only so much she could how us but it was still very cool.
The funny part was when Jeff first came into the room and said something, the technician said did you see that the baby started moving more when it heard your voice. It was true Bumpkin was more active at the sound of Jeff's voice. It was pretty cool.
On the weekend we started clearing out the spare room to make into the nursery. We have lots to do as we will be tearing out the carpet, stripping the walls and rewallpaper, paint and refloor. Then of course there's shopping for baby furniture! I can't wait to see it all done.

Off to the Dr. tomorrow for a check up and results of the ultrasound. Keep you posted on this new adventure we are on....

Spring Flood

The spring flood in our area brought a couple of jokers as well.
This is actually a raod, although it would look like the river itself. The road was obviously closed due to the flood.
Jeff is pictured here on our ATV checking out how deep the water is.

This is one of the houses along the river overcome by the flood. Normally there is a 60ft dock out in front as well as a front yard. The house was surrounded by water and the dock is still underwater today.
On the opposite side of the river from the house above is this one which is currently for sale. There is a for sale sign on the lawn but it is surrounded by water. Sand bags surround the house to ward off the water.

More of the flood

This is under the Severn Bridge. Normally we can walk under here. To keep dry we put our feet up on the ATV & drove through.
This is the marina on the river. The water is right up to the gas pump.
Pictured here is our neighbours bridge which had floated away.
