My name is Heather Broadbridge-Longtin. I created this blog when I first became engaged. My life has changed in so many ways since then I am a wife, a mother but no longer a daughter. All of these things have shaped me into who I am. I am about to embark on yet another challenge or name to add to the list - business woman. It's a small step toward my ultimate goal of "what do I want to be when I gorw up".

It's a Boy!!!

Mommy & Bumpkin in recovery
Happy Birthday, Bumpkin!! Our baby boy arrived safely after a Cesaran section at 3:32PM on August 22/08. Mommy & Daddy were so happy with his arrival. He did take us by surprise by being a boy but he's a healthy baby boy and that's what matters. We can't wait to share him with everyone. Mommy & baby Longtin are doing fine.

Photos by Pauline
A visit to Pauline & Ken's (finally) led to a photo shoot for Jeff & I. Here's just a sample of some of the pics she took. I have to find the ones with Jeff too and post them later but for now you can enjoy these.
Thanks Pauline, for a great brunch, gifts for baby Ethan and the friendship and laughter we always share whenever we are together.

Special day...
August 11th will always be a special day for me, as it was my mother's birthday. I haven't quite figured out what to do on this day except to remember her, which isn't hard, since it's pretty much a daily occurance. I would like to do something...I'm open to suggestions...For now, I'll remember on her day, how she loved to celebrate, she loved her family and fruit flan was her favourite for birthday cake.
I hope others will remember her too and smile at the thought of her because she loved to smile.
Happy day...
Baby Update Week 37 & 4 days
Another weekly appointment and anoother rise in my blood pressure(BP). It was somewhat caused by stress. Getting to the DR's today was a little on the stressful side. The car decided to "act up" - it wouldn't start. This has to be the worst year for cars for us. I think a brand new one is in order. We will have to see about that one. Anyway, I managed to get the car started after several attempts and get on the road. But as I was ramping up to get on the highway instead of accelerating the car bogged and almost stalled. Luckily, it didn't it finally took the gas and off it went. So the rest of the drive to Barrie I was worried something was going to happen with the car and that I wouldn't get there on time. So needless to say, when i got there my BP was 150/90 and my feet were swollen like balloons. The nurse said she would take it again before I left since I told her about my trip in to the office. It came down to 130/90 which was better but still high so she wanted the DR to know before I left. He was happier with the second reading but still told me to rest all week until I see him next week at the Birthing Unit.
Last week he had indicated he may want to induce me or deliver me by C section because of my BP and perhaps the size of the baby but this week he made no mention of it. So, I guess we wait another week and see what happens. The main thing is Bumpkin is doing just fine. Still managing to wriggle around in the cramped quarters of Bumpkin's Mommy's tummy.
Count down...18 days.....

Baby Update Week 35
Another week has past and another check up has come and gone without any problems. Yah!!
Still have to take it easy but all is well as of July 28th.
July 31st was a different story. After my weekly appointment on Monday I started feeling rather crappy - little sleep and a general "unwell" feeling. By Wednesday I was rotten and felt light headed, naseua, cramps in my tummy, and at bedtime I had a headache. Thursday morning I still didn't feel well and after consulting my support team - Jeff, Marlene and Grandma they all told me to call the Dr's office. So I did. I explained my symptoms to the nurse and she advised I go to the birthing unit to get checked out to be on the safe side. My concern was my blood pressure. I hadn't had a headache yet and they ask me each time I go so I figured my blood pressure was up or something. So I decided to take the nurse's advise and go to the hospital. Jeff's Mom came with me as I wasn't sure I could drive myself the way I was feeling. They hooked me up to the fetal monitor and checked my blood pressure every 15 mins. My blood pressure was only slightly elevated and went down the longer I was there. So that was good. Bumpkin was quiet at first. I don't think Bumpkin liked how Mommy was lying because as soon as I changed position Bumpkin moved like never before which is also good. After almost 2 hours the Dr came and said everything looked fine. By that time Jeff was with me too. What a relief!! I started to feel better after we left. I felt kinda silly afterwards but as the nurse said "better safe than sorry".
I have this feeling I'm going early so maybe that's another reason I felt I should go. I knew I wasn't in labour or anything but I did hear you feel really crappy before you go into labour so I guess i was a little worried about that too.
Whether its a "feeling" or "wishful thinking" only time will tell. Although my Grandma confirms how I feel. She thinks I'm having Bumpkin early too and I'd bet the Las Vegas odds that Gram's right. Now if she's only right about the girl.....
As I write this I have entered my 36th week so I'm considered full term by the end of this week and could go any day, so they say. My bag is packed all but last minute things so I'm ready to go.
28 days & counting......

Mom's Little Helpers
While at my house Marlene decided to do a little gardening for me. She recruited a little help from her boys...not sure just how much help they were but they sure are cute...!!!
Let's Bake a Cake, Auntie Heather
Marlene, Gee-Gee and the boys came for a visit in july for a few days to help me out around the house since I was on bedrest. My not so little man, anymore, woke up Sunday morning and wanted to bake a cake "for my mom". Auntie Heather was more than happy to bake a cake with him. It was supposed to be a surprise or so he said until his mom came downstairs and he said "guess what mom, we're baking you a cake". Opps! He's still needs to work on his "element of surprise." After we baked the cake we then had to ice it but first we had to go to the grocery store to get icing. Tip: If you have a boxed cake on hand be sure to have icing on hand also. This will eliminate the insesant need for any child to continually ask are we going to the grocery store for icing? Repeatedly- until you actually go. And then be sure that once you have the said icing that as soon as you walk through the door you can drop everything and ice the cake because there is no time like the present for a 4 year old than to ice the cake immediately. Of course, only if you are the mother would you make the child wait until after dinner for a piece of cake he waited all day to have.
